Youth racing comes to Dervock

Saturday saw the Dervock Festival and again Ballymoney CC put on a display of quality racing for the future of the sport, the young riders.

With clubs from Donegal, Omagh, Ballymena, Belfast, Bangor, Ballymoney, Cookstown, Maghera and Garvagh, Maghera and Lurgan all represented over 50 youth took part in the Under 16 racing that saw our own Robbie Doherty get 3rd and the U14 racing where best placed rider was Shay Donley, new to racing Jordan Campbell, the tough Oliver Watt and two exciting prospects Cameron and Calum Wallace getting their racing careers off to a good start. The 10’s saw Scottie Donley in Biesty’s colours in this opportunity to see our young people develop.

Joan Trengove and Rhona Laverty have carried the “Family” ethos of Ballymoney Cycling Club to the front and the large turn out of young people and parents showed that this is where cycing begins and grows. Thank you to TOP rider and cycling ambassador John Madden who recently broke the Derry to Belfast record and James Maguire winner of the National Road Race title in 1959 and also represented N.Ireland at the Commonwealth games presented the prizes to the riders. These were donated by the Dervock Community and Mr Frank McLernon of the Association. Presented at the event was the Hot Cha Shield for the U14’s and the Oliver Kane Cup for the Under16’s along with medals for all the riders.

BCC want to also thank all the members who turned out marshall and make the racing a talking point by all the clubs who attended.

Coming Events

This Tuesday night is the Armoy Motorcycle Road Races turn to let bikes onto the circuit and Ballymoney CC will host their annual races

starting at 7.15pm. A 25 mile kermesse type event that has saw local junior Jordan McCaw and Aaron Swan who recently finished in the junior Tour

of Ireland. All BCC members available to help out on Tuesday night are asked to came to Armoy for 6.30pm.

All other clubs are invited to come along and after the racing enjoy a cup of tea and a sandwich care of the motorcyle club.
