Only a minute later the home side did break the deadlock though. Patton held the ball up well before picking out Ciaran Clarke who crossed for Patrick and although his initial shot was blocked he drilled home the follow-up with his left foot.

In the 9th minute the Roesiders went further ahead. Jennings met Declan McKeever's driven cross and powerfully headed beyond Brian Kane.

Rangers first chance of the game came in the 21st minute but Peter Kennoway headed over from a corner.

United's next chance came in the 24th minute when Jennings picked up Damian McNulty's clearance but his effort was deflected wide.

Ten minutes before the interval Patton saw a header drift just wide of Kane's goal after a high ball into the box.

Glebe pulled a goal back in controversial circumstances in the 39th minute. A penalty was given for handball but it certainly appeared to be ball to hand rather than the other way round. Parkhill scored despite Michael Doherty getting a hand to the ball.

The home side had the first chance of the second half but once again Patton failed to find the target with his header.

Three minutes later the visitors had an excellent chance from a corner but Doherty did well to tip over Tommy Elder's header.

In the 65th minute Owens tried his luck from outside the area but his effort flew well wide of the target.

The home side had another decent chance shortly after but Peter Spratt headed Clarke's corner wide of the goal.

With 73 minutes gone Owens once again tried his luck. This time from a free-kick, but his effort was well over the bar.

Glebe thought they had equalised in the 79th minute. Elder beat Doherty to the ball and rolled it goal wards but Michael Walsh somehow scooped the ball off the line.

A minute later the visitors had another chance but Parkhill's free-kick was easily saved.

Walsh almost got on the score sheet after his heroics at the other end but his well struck volley flew just wide with Kane struggling.

The game was settled in the 87 minute when Owens fired home a wonderful volley that will be a contender for goal of the season.
