Town get their fizz back at Coagh

Coagh United 2

Banbridge Town 3

IT was a long time in coming but Banbridge Town have finally scored their first win of 2010.

Hagan Park was the scene of their famous win against Ladbrokes.com Championship 1 strugglers Coagh United.

Town went into the game with full back Neil King back available once again for selection after missing last week’s defeat to Carrick Rangers through suspension.

They took the lead through Timmy Grant but their lead was short lived as Jamie Gardiner levelled the scores with a penalty kick after Stephen Lamont was brought down inside the box.

Mark Taggart then put the visitors in front and the win was sealed on 77 minutes when David Calderwood hauled down Grant inside the penalty area. Defender Calderwood was given his marching orders before Grant dusted himself down and slotted home the Town’s third goal.

Gardner pulled one back for the County Tyrone side from the penalty spot but it was too little, too late for United.

Next week, however, Town will need to be at their very best to beat a Donegal Celtic side pushing for promotion to the Premiership. DC are one of three teams gunning for the title along with Loughgall and Limavady United so they will need all three points to maintain that challenge.

They did that title charge no harm on Saturday with an important 3-1 win over rock bottom Armagh City in West Belfast.

And Town will go into the game without the services of captain Ricky Copeland who is suspended after being booked 10 times this season.
