Prizes were also presented to the losing semi-final groups staged under the guidance of, respectively, Winifred Kirkwood and Mansel Montgomery.

The organisers would like to thank Lurgan Credit Union for continued tournament sponsorship.

Lurgan’s Closing Day competition featured victory on the final end of the John Murphy Cup open singles for Ivor Mitchell over Michael Bunting. The runner-up collected the Boyes Cup.

The open pairs event was settled by Mitchell and Gareth Bunting to capture the Ruddell Cup. The Campbell Cup went to the runners-up.

Mansel Montgomery had earlier captured the veterans’ open singles at the expense of Peter McGrail during another title settled on the final end.

Ivor Mitchell clocked up a number of semi-final appearances over the schedule but his highlight arrived with Beckett Cup joy as the player with most points across 2014.

Bobby Boness and Irene Doone led the winners during the traditional Closing Day rinks tournament.

The club president, Sam Neill, lowered the flag.

Lurgan players were out on show last weekend at Cloughey in a charity rinks tournament raising money for NI Hospice.

John Gilliland’s rinks lost out at the qualifying stages, with Gareth Bunting’s group too strong for Alan Roberts and colleagues. Bunting and his team-mates lost the six-end final by 6-4.

“It was another excellent season for Lurgan, with our A team gaining promotion to top-flight bowls,” said a club spokesman. “The veterans won the Hatch Cup and a league title.

“Mansel Montgomery’s rink also reached the NIBA semi-finals.”
