Tight lines for Larne anglers at Port Salon

LARNE and District Sea and Angling Club's annual weekend away saw members travel to the picturesque shores of Port Salon in Donegal.

The beach competition started at midday as various of traces and baits were cast near and far to attract any fish species to the hook.

Within the first 15 minutes Graeme Blair quickly reeled in the first catch – a nice thorn-back ray weighing in at approximately 6lbs.

After this, the shouts went up from competitors as others began to reel in catches.

With the tide dropping at a ferocious rate and anglers continually moving their equipment, rod tips could visibly be seen bending to the strain of the frantic pulls of the rays.

The day ended with all fish returned.

The totals where tallied and as details of places were announced, Graeme Blair easily took first place with 25 thorn-back rays and over 1,300 points – an excellent achievement.

He collected the Weekend Away Trophy, a money prize and full Master Angler points. Second spot went to Barry Platt, while Gannon Robinson was third.

A meeting of the club is set to take place tonight (Thursday) at the Pigeon Club with a boat competition organised this weekend at Portaferry.
