Success for Springwell at Indoor Championships

SPRINGWELL Juniors travelled to the Odyssey Arena, Belfast on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 February for the NI & Ulster Juvenile Indoor Championships.

Holly Clarke had a very successful championship winning her heat in U17 Girls 200m in 27.74 to qualify for the final were she finished second (silver medal) also in 27.74.

In the 60m she finishing third in her heat in 8.44 to qualify for the final were she finished 4th place in 8.52. As the three girls who finished in front of Holly were guest runners she was crowned NI & Ulster Indoor Champion.

Sally Brown went in the Girls U16 200m finishing 3rd in her heat in 39.03 but failed to make the final.

Springwell also had five athletes going in the 800m.

Girls U14 Aiofe McSheffrey 2.54.07, Boys U14 Michael Creamer 2.54.91, Girls U15 Emma Lusby 2.43.98, Boys U16 Ryan Ennis 2.22.56 and Ashley Cairns 2.14.32.

All the young athletes enjoyed the experience of running on the indoor track and are now training hard in preparation for the outdoor season.

Springwell Running Club are busy making final arrangements for Roe Valley Country Park Trail Run on Saturday 20 February. The 8K race is organised with the assistance of the NI Environment Agency and is sponsored by RG Connell & Sons Solicitors, Limavady. Racing gets under way at 11.30 with the primary school 800m followed by U13 & U16 1600m at 11.50. The ladies race is at 12.15, male vets and juniors 12.25 and the male open at 12.35. Entries will be taken on the day at the visitors centre a good days racing is anticipated.
