QUEEN’S UNIVERSITY II 3

Unfortunately, the Queens girls’ hard work paid off when they were awarded a penalty corner which was converted.

The game continued with Queens applying pressure on Ballymoney; the midfield of Phillipa Laverty, Elizabeth Mooreland, and Sara Gardner worked hard to keep up with their players and fought hard for the ball.

A lapse in concentration from Money saw Queens get into the circle. Keeper Judith McCracken made a great first save but Queens were strong on the rebound and converted it into a goal.

This was a wakeup call for the ‘Money girls and after battling hard to get the ball up the pitch to the forwards of Emma Patton, Sarah Holding and Karen Morrison the girls were awarded a penalty corner. Ruth Sutherland carefully placed the ball into the right hand corner leaving the score 2-1 at half time.

After an intense team talk from Diane Kirgan the ‘Money girls came out full of confidence ready for the second half.

The play started with money in possession. The midfield and forwards worked together to apply pressure on the Queens defence however the girls were unrewarded for their efforts.

A poor decision by the umpire saw a penalty corner being awarded to Queens and after appealing the call Jill Black was awarded a green card which saw ‘Money down to ten players.

Queens converted the penalty corner leaving the score 3-1.

As the weather took a turn for the worse ‘Money continued to battle and fought for every ball but their efforts weren’t good enough. The final score was 3-1.

The girls would like to thank Diane McNeill for umpiring and coach Diane Kirgan.

Their next match is on Friday against Carrick in the second round of cup.
