RUGBY: Danske Bank Schools’ Cup Results and Draws

Carrickfergus Grammar avenged an early season defeat to Lurgan College on Saturday morning by progressing to the second round of the Danske Bank Schools’ Cup at the expenses of the Co Armagh boys.

Carrick were 22-3 home winners against Lurgan and they now face another home tie in the second round on January 24 against Belfast Royal Academy.

The draw was made by Peter Hunniford, Danske Bank Lisburn Branch, along with Stephen Black, Headmasters’ Representative on the Ulster Schools’ Committee at Friends’ School, Lisburn where the host school had lost 16-5 against Portadown College.

The seven winners were joined in the second round draw by nine further teams: Bangor GS, Belfast HS, Belfast Royal Academy, Dalriada School, Down HS, Omagh Academy, Portora Royal School, Rainey Endowed School and Royal School Armagh.

The eight winners from round 2 will be joined in the last 16 by the remaining eight ‘top’ seeded teams: Ballyclare High School, Ballymena Academy, Campbell College, Methodist College Belfast, Royal Belfast Academical Institution, Coleraine Academical Institution, Wallace High School and Sullivan Upper School.

Meanwhile, the seven defeated teams in the first round, along with Strabane Academy who lost in the premliminary round to Antrim GS, go into the Danske Bank Schools’ Trophy.

The quarter-final draw was:

Wellington College v Friends’ School
