Portstewart youngsters out of Junior Cup

PORTSTEWART Golf Club's Junior Cup team's efforts to win a place in the All Ireland Finals were brought to a halt by an in-form Banbridge team on Sunday.

Shandon Park Golf Club was the venue and the weather was glorious. First out was Chris Barber and he produced another strong performance to chalk up a 3 and 2 victory. Neil Vallely was only one over par after six but found himself two down to a very able opponent. Neil eventually went down 5 and 4. Recalled Dan Henry fought well but again the County Down man stayed strong and posted the second win for Banbridge.

As usual Paul Cooley went four down early in the round. Paul’s usual comeback started to gather momentum as he got two holes back by the thirteenth but, two more body blows from Banbridge at 14 and 15 sealed that match and the tie. Keith Walls was one up at fourteen when he was called in.

Banbridge now progress to the All Ireland Finals at Castlebar in September.
