Alderman Paul Porter, Chairman of the Council’s Leisure Services Committee, speaking at the launch of the event, said: “Last year saw record numbers compete in this annual event and I hope that we will set a new record again this year. I would like to remind all those interested in taking part that the closing date for application is the 18th July in order to guarantee a place in this annual event.

“Both events attract a huge number of athletes, young and old, from around Lisburn and further afield with many of those who annually take part travelling around Ireland competing in similar events. I wish all the athletes the best of luck in the competitions and I look forward to seeing a great display of sporting skill and stamina on the day. I would also urge spectators to come along to the Lagan Valley LeisurePlex at 9.00am on Sunday 20th July to cheer on the spectators, free of charge.

“These annual events have become both a popular competition and a great family sporting occasion in the Council’s calendar, so if you are interested in taking part, don’t delay in submitting your application,” concluded Alderman Porter.

The City of Lisburn Triathlon is a ‘Sprint Triathlon’ and is suitable for either first time triathletes or those more experienced athletes. It consists of a 750 metre swim, 20 km cycle and a 5 km run. The Junior Aquathon is open to under 16 year olds and will consist of 200 metre swim (8 lengths) followed by a 2km run.
