Mikado takes to the boards

‘THE show must go on’ has always been the cry of theatrical people, but for Lisnagarvey Operatic and Dramatic Society, it became their life-saving motto.

Lisnagarvey’s production of the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, ‘The Mikado,’ was presented at Lisburn College for Further Education April 26-30, 1988.

The production involved a cast of over 40 and local theatre lovers expected the same high standard as usual from the popular society.

Set in Imperial Japan, the plot weaves its way through splendid oriental sets created by Val Gough and his team.

Once again, production was in the hands of Anne Geddes, winner of the producer’s award in the 1987 Northern Ireland Festival of Light Opera who, with choreographer Maureen MacAuley, steered the cast through a typically uproarious Gilbertian story. The experience and expertise shone through.
