Five leaders, all physical education teachers, were to provide a programme of activities.

These were to include soccer, cricket, rugby, hockey, tennis and softball.

The gym was to be used for volleyball, soccer, table tennis and gymnastics.

In addition, there were to be weekend outings to Grove Baths in Belfast for swimming lessons.

Alpha Boys’ Club was also to make premises available for activities.

The report indicated that there were no recreational facilities in the estate.

Meanwhile, also in June 1964, a dairy was fined £15 at Ballyclare Petty Sessions after a school child found a piece of tin foil rolled and covered in cream in a bottle of milk.

A representative of the dairy told the court that the plant processed one million bottles of milk daily.
