Looking back... Ballyclare scout arrested in Spain for wearing shorts
Police had decided that he was too old to be wearing short trousers in public.
The boy was a member of a troop from Ballyclare High School which had been visiting San Sebastian on a day trip.
They had been taking part in a camp in Biarritz in France.

Police agreed to release the scout after he agreed to purchase a pair of long trousers at a nearby tailor’s shop.
Another mishap had occurred during the trip when the scouts lost one of their tents.

A visit to the local market and maritime museum gave the scouts an opportunity to practice their French.
As part of the trip, they also had an opportunity to go sightseeing in London which took them to Buckingham Palace, Madame Tussaud’s, Carnaby Street and Baden Powell House, named after the founder of the scouting movement.
