The Prime Minister and his wife were given a guard of honour by students to the door way where they were greeted by Mr. WJ Donald, chairman of Antrim County Education Committee.

They were introduced to college staff, 29 full-time and 27 part-time teachers.

Lord Brookeborough added: “Here in Larne when Associated Electrical Industries were building up their initial labour force, the technical college gave most valuable assistance by providing training courses for unemployed men.”

Two hundred and 43 trainees were employed by the firm between 1953 and 1957, the Times reported.
