Two Stroke Racing lives on at Armoy

The Bayview Hotel Moto3 GP 125cc and Solitude Motors and JW Hickinson & Sons 250cc race has seen 40 number of entries to date with some 33 competitors racing in both races.

Ann Louden, Race Secretary and her husband Peter, Assistant Clerk of the Course, are two people in the Club that have been instrumental in donating monies for this award in addition to presenting a perpetual trophy.

Ann Louden Race Secretary of the Armoy Motorcycle Road Racing Club, explains; “It was after a conversation with Paul Robinson who is renowned for riding the two strokes. A lively discussion had ensued about the 125cc and 250cc races and how important it is to encourage the sport at these levels.

“We were in agreement about this fact and that the Bayview Hotel Moto3 GP 125cc and Solitude Motors and JW Hickinson & Sons 250 cc races were two great races but it was a case of – well if you believe it then do something about it!

“Peter and I have been associated with the Club since its inception and as Race Secretary and Assistant Clerk of the Course there are all sorts to be pulling together and these last few months have been exceedingly busy and I can honestly say we wouldn’t have it any other way.

“We are delighted we could assist in this small way. It is important to us that those starting out in road racing give it a go and that, these two classes continue to exist and breed the best and brightest of road racing’s future. I hope this Two-Stroke Man of the Meeting award and prize money is a great encouragement to all in these classes.”

Other news related to the 125cc class is that Rob Vernon has donated a Lee Vernon trophy for the best female competitor in the 125cc class. With the recent female invasion there are two females competitors in the class so once again it is fantastic to see the Bayview Hotel 125cc Class highlighted in this way.

This is a great tribute to Lee Vernon who raced at the Armoy Road Races sponsored by RiverRidge Recycling in 2012. Lee impressed everyone in Armoy when he stepped onto the 2nd placed podium in the 250cc race, sandwiched between William Dunlop and Paul Robinson on only his first visit to the Armoy circuit.
