Reid can be racing ‘star of the future’

Newtownabbey’s Andy Reid described putting pen to paper on a two-year deal with Shaun Muir Racing (SMR) as a “slightly surreal feeling” that “hasn’t sunk in yet”.

The Jordanstown racer’s decision to sign keeps him in the team for the 2015 and 2016 seasons, allowing him to concentrate on his goal of winning this year’s British Superstock 600 championship. Team owner Muir says Reid has what it takes to be a big name in bikes.

Despite finishing fifth at Brands Hatch at the weekend, Reid continues to lead the way in the series - 24 points ahead of Kyle Ryde.

“I have been given a great stage to show what I can do and SMR feel I have the potential which gives me even more confidence,” Reid (right) said.

“The team are behind me all the way and they really believe in what I can do on track.”

He added: “This is my chance to progress and use this as a stepping stone within the SMR team and I am super-happy we have been able to sign for them at this period in the season which takes away that pressure, so I can continue to focus on winning the championship this year.”

Muir has been impressed with Reid since the team started working with him and said he has continued to prove he is a very talented rider.

“I have been watching him closely and he has the potential to be a star of the future,” he said.
