Wright was awarded the accolade thanks to his two wins in the production 300 class, in which he raced the McCelland Kawasaki and recorded a new class lap record at 1.21.9.

He hadn’t ridden the bike before, but went out and set pole position before winning the races and setting that lap record.

To his surprise, it was decided he was to be man of the meeting were he received £300 and a new helmet.

He said: “I couldn’t believe how well the day had gone. I really would like to thank the McClelland family as we well as Thomas Smyth who were such a great team this weekend.

“I couldn’t have done it without them, as well all my sponsors who help me live my dream of racing motorbikes.”
