Mid-Antrim ‘150’ launch this Saturday

THE countdown continues to one of the Ballymena area’s flagship annual sporting events this weekend.

The Mid-Antrim 150 motorcycle races will be officially launched at the town’s Broadway Bandstand this Saturday, April 21, from 12 noon to 2pm.

The event will allow supporters to come along and meet club members, sponsors and competitors as well as hear details of race week and the format of the event.

Organisers of the event have vowed to return even stronger following the disappointment of the cancellation of last year’s races.

On that occasion, the event had to be abandoned after what is believed to have been a deliberate oil spill on the Clough circuit.

The setback brought the entire motorcycle community, both locally and further afield, and there is a steely determination among organisers to ensure that this year’s event is the best yet.

Among the changes the club has made have been to switch the meeting from its traditional early-August slot on the calendar to June 15-16.

The Mid-Antrim club’s preparations also received a boost recently when Ballymena Borough Council agreed to provide £7,000 funding not only for this year’s event but also in respect of the 2011 meeting after the local authority was satisfied that the “cancellation was due to circumstances outside the control of the organisers”.
