McCormick ready after four wins

Glenoe rider Glenn McCormick got the confidence boost he needed before this Sunday's Maxxis British Championship Motocross at Desertmartin when he took four wins and the overall in the MX2 Experts class at the Hawkstone Park Michelin MX Masters at the weekend.

“It couldn’t have went any better,” beamed the 21-year-old.

“Pole position, four wins and the overall. What can I say!.

“We changed the suspension on the bike the week before Hawkstone and it made all the difference.

“Instead of fighting with the bike I could concentrate on racing it again.

“I knew before leaving for Hawkstone that we had turned a corner and was confident that I could run at the front again.

“It is the first time since my accident at the start of 2016, that forced me out of action all season, that I have felt like my old self.”

After qualifying fastest on the Agnew Recovery/Watts Motorcycles KTM he made a good start in race one taking the lead at turn two and staying there until the chequered flag.

In his other three races over the weekend he struggled away from the gate and had to come from nearly dead last to win them.

“My last race was the toughest,” he admitted.

“I spun up again on the start and with the track being really rough at that stage of the day it was hard work.

“I could have settling for third or fourth which would have still given me the overall but after all the hard work we had put in before and during the meeting I was determined to go for the win.

“This win couldn’t have come at a better time as I will need to be at the top of my game at Desertmartin this weekend when I will be up against the Pro MX2 riders.

“When I compared lap times between myself and the Pro riders from the weekend, I’m not far away.

“So come Sunday in front of the home support I believe that I can finish inside the top fifteen.

“I’ll have a good sleep on Saturday night get out of the right side of the bed and go for it on Sunday,” he joked.
