It’s Jay’s day as teenager rides to career best at Newry event

Jordanstown’s Jay McCrum had a career-best result in the fourth round of the semi-expert Ulster Motocross Championship at the weekend.

Despite a poor qualifying time, the 16-year-old Belfast Royal Academy pupil was determined to produce top form at Tinker Hill (Newry) on Saturday (June 21).

He notched up a third-place finish in race one and matched that display in race two.

After making some adjustments to the suspension before his final outing, Jay was confident he could improve his position in the final race of the day.

The rookie led the semi-expert class from start to finish and eventually went on take victory in the overall race.

“I struggled with suspension set-up in race one and two but with some help from Stephen Agnew we got a better setting for race three which made a huge difference,” Jay told the Times.

“It enabled me to acheive my career-best, winning the MX1 and MX2 class.”

He is now looking forward to round four of the Irish Championship at Downpatrick Motorcross Park.
