Bird set for Bank Holiday bonanza

The dust has barely settled on the sensational opening round of the MRA Ulster Motocross Championships when suddenly, round 2 is here, and the action moves from the sand of Desertmartin to the slick hard pack surface of Seaforde Motocross Park on Bank Holiday Monday.

Mourne Motocross Club have the honour of promoting round 2, and in the Nutt Travel Premier MX1 Class, Carrickfergus rider Graeme Irwin leads the Championship on his Heads & All Threads Suzuki on 72 points, with English JAR Honda rider Matt Moffett second on 65, first local is 2013 runner up Richard Bird on the Five Watt KTM on 60 points, Lisburn man Richard may well be the de facto leader as Graeme & Matt may be competing in England this Bank Holiday, if so, then the locals, including Ballygowan’s reigning Champion Gary Gibson on the Bannside Pallets & Haulage Suzuki, Comber’s Wayne Garrett on his Mullan Motors KTM, Robert Hamilton on the Risk Racing GOMX Yamaha and Ryan Adair on the Adair Building Services Suzuki will be looking to capitalise on their absence.

In the Laverty Motocross/Eunisure Insurance MX2 Class, Jay McCrum leads the Championship on his KTM on 70 points, with Belfast 15 year old James Mackrel on the Mullan Motors KTM125 3 points behind.

Racing starts at 11.30am at Seaforde, which will be signposted off the main Clough Ballynahinch Road, spectator viewing is excellent at the hillside circuit, and the Mourne Club always run a slick programme of races, entry is £5.00, with under 14’s free.
