More glory for Springwell runners

It was another busy weekend of activity across Northern Ireland on the local running scene, and it saw yet more honours for Springwell Running Club.

The successes came through a number of superb individual results, on beach, road and forest trails.

Springwell had a great evening at the Limavady Sports Council Awards, with Ciara Mc Sherry taking the Female Award and Fran McFadden runner up. John Butcher was awarded the Brian Campbell Endeavour Award for his multi marathon running achievements. The annual club road race, “Round the Bridges”, was awarded the runner up place in the Event Of the Year category.

Club member Thomas Moore was awarded the male veteran award for his achievements in Triathlon and Ireland age group selection for the European Middle Distance Championships.

Saturday morning at Portrush parkrun also saw an outstanding run by an exceptional young man, when Neil Johnston, our current Male Athlete of the Year Award holder, stunned all present, by storming up and down the 5k course in an absolutely amazing time of 15:48 and in the process setting a new outright course record, by the huge margin of 48 seconds.

Jonathan McKee claimed a second spot at the Whitehead 5 Mile Road Race on Easter Monday and a fantastic 1-2 for the in-form Kerrie McIlmoyle, after an outstanding set of back-to-back Half Marathons and Amanda Connell at the 3rd event in the valley Running Clubs 5k Race series.

In other news, Noel McAllister completed his 17th marathon on Sunday at the East Antrim Marathon, while in the Paris Marathon, Becky Coulter had a great run to finish in 3:41:44.
