Medal joy for Nicole at the UK School Games

THERE was medal glory for a gymnast from Lisburn's Salto Gymnastics Centre at the UK school games in Newcastle Upon Tyne recently, when Nicole Mawhinney picked up a silver medal in the women's vault final.

Nicole, a member of Northern Ireland's Womens Artistic Gymnastics Squad gained the first ever medal by a Northern Ireland gymnast at the prestigious games.

Nicole, from Portavogie, is a fourth year pupil at Regent House and is trained by by Salto Team Coaches Kim Kensett-Friar from Bangor, Sun Jie from China and Clare Taylor from Lisburn at Salto, Lisburn Centre Excellence.

Nicole narrowly missing out on gold; an encouraging reward for somebody that trains 24 hours per week and spends an additional 18 hours travelling to and from her training in Lisburn.
