McHugh, who has won a string of Irish titles, is set to compete in the singles event and partner Ian McClure (Portrush) in the pairs.

The Whitehead BC man was a member of the rink which won gold at the 1998 Kuala Lumpur games. McClure, Booth and Gary McCloy joined him then.

In fact, Northern Ireland representatives have an impressive record in the Commonwealth Games having won medals on each occasion, dating back to 1982 in Brisbane.

Last year McHugh bolstered an impressive CV winning both the Irish singles and pairs competitions (alongside Barry Browne) at Larne Bowling Club. It was the fifth time he has got his hands on the singles title, and his fourth doubles success.

McHugh was nominated in the Sports Performer of the Year category at the Larne Sports Awards this year.

The squad for Glasgow will be managed by Jim Baker and will play their games at Kelvingrove.
