Lynn treads winning path in Michelin event at Raceview

MICHELIN PLC were the sponsors of the Saturday competition at Raceview on June 26 and with fine weather plus the course on good condition, the scores returned reflected the conditions.

The top score came from 10-handicapper Jonathan Lynn who played the course in one over gross which converted into 45 stableford points.

A dropped shot on the opening hole was followed by seven pars and a birdie on the ninth took him back to level par and a total of 23 points.

Jonathan entered the back nine with bogey, par, bogey and another five straight pars saw him tee off the last hole two over but he ended his round in a blaze as he birdied the final hole for an additional 22 points.

Two points in arrears of Lynn came David Bell (18) who scored 22 on the front nine and 21 on the back nine, of which 16 came from the last six holes which pushed Clifford Anderson (13) into third place.

Bell had a total of eight pars, seven single bogeys, a double bogey on the fifth, a birdie on the third and a non-event on the 12th.

Anderson got off to a superb start with a birdie on the opening hole, followed by two pars, only to have a double concession on the fourth for no points.

The next five holes were made up of two pars, two bogeys plus a birdie on the sixth, giving him 22 points for the first nine holes. The back nine was made up of five bogeys, three pars plus a valuable birdie on the final hole for an additional 21 points.

Fourth nett was won by Christopher Magee, who returned a total of 42 points from his six handicap.

A superb front nine of six pars plus birdies on the first, sixth and ninth gave him 24 points. He then parred the first four holes on the back nine only to lose a little momentum over the final five holes where he dropped three shots, but a round of level par gross cannot be bad.

David Clements managed to claim the fifth nett prize but only by the fact he had a better last two hole total of five points, against four from Nigel Cairns.

Clements had anything but a prize-winning start as he double-bogeyed three of the first six holes, yet he managed to total 19 for the first nine, which was boosted by a birdie on the par three fourth, which was worth four points.

The second nine was much better, the only exception being a double bogey on the 11th but against that, he scored five pars which resulted in 22 points home.

Cairns’ (21) opening nine resulted in seven single bogeys, a double bogey on the second plus a par on the seventh for 19 points. The closing nine contained four pars, three bogeys, plus double bogeys on the 12th and 17th with that last one being the vital one on that last two hole countback.

The best gross card came from Dermot McElroy (+1) who posted a total of one under, 67 shots.
