The Lagan Valley Power NI Super 5 series is sponsored by Power NI, who donated money to Lagan Valley which helped reduce entry fees to the competition. This allowed athletes to pay a fee of two pound regardless of the number events they entered.

The competition will be the club’s 23rd season of summer athletics meetings and following the refurbishment of the Mary Peters Track it returns this year to it’s traditional home.

The core idea of the Super 5 series has been to encourage young athletes to have a go at a variety of events. The first meeting played host to 1500m, 1000m, 80m, 100m, shot putt, long jump and high jump.

Over the years these meetings have been the launching pad for international athletes such as, Vicki Jameson, Kelly McNeice and Gareth Turnbull.

Lagan Valley Athletics Club is hoping to encourage young people to get involved in athletics and sport, and with the new Mary Peters track they hope more young people will participate in sport.

The next competition will be held on May 2 at the Mary Peters track.
