Liam stars in sweep

ONCE again youth came to the fore in last Wednesday’s sweep as three of the six net winners were juveniles.

With an exceptional score of 45 points the weekly winner was Liam McKeown. Playing off an eighteen handicap this juvenile golfer ended up three points clear of the opposition.

At the halfway mark he had an incredible 27 points on his card. Not surprisingly he only mustered 18 points on the back nine.

With a six under par effort of 42 points Michael Curran was placed second. Off his eighteen handicap he had a much stronger impact on the back nine. Pars at holes ten, twelve, fifteen, seventeen and eighteen were his noteworthy scores.

Juvenile Jack Wilson also recorded 42 points to secure third place.

This twenty-one handicapper had a spectacular front nine comprising pars on holes one, three, four, eight and nine. The trip home was a lot more hazardous but pars on holes ten and twelve proved invaluable.

Another juvenile Peter Cummins captured the fourth net award. This eleven handicap golfer did so with 40 points.

He birdied the first and made pars on the next four holes. Another run of pars from the seventh to the tenth helped his points tally. He rounded off his day with a trio of pars.

The fifth and sixth net prizes went to Patrick Horner and Hugh O’Reilly with scores of 39 points.

Twenty-six handicapper Patrick was best served by a birdie on the sixth and pars at holes eleven, twelve and sixteen.

Meanwhile the latter’s highlights were a birdie on twelve and pars on holes nine, eleven and fourteen.

The weekly gross prize went to Shane Magee.

This three handicapper won with 34 gross points. Birdies at holes three, ten and twelve were crucial scores. With ten pars on his card he duly scooped the gross prize.
