Kearney 'far from pleased' with performance

Roesiders supremo Oran Kearney was far from pleased with his side's performance against Glebe Rangers.

"Not to put too fine a point on it a lot of what we did against Glebe was simply not good enough.

"I know before the game started that it was going to be a stick fixture and it proved to be just that.

"I was told before the game that we were 1/12 and Glebe were 20/1 and those are just crazy prices.

"There is no way that any team in this league should be as low or as high as those odds were quoted," he said.

The former Ballymena United and Linfield midfielder got the performance that he expected from the visitors.

"I expected it to be no different to the Ballymoney United game and so it proved to be.

"That was a tough physical encounter and so was this game to a certain extent as well.

"Even if Derek (Donaghy) had still been in charge then I would have expected the same thing from him as well.

"There is always that bit of extra needle in these games as well. I'm from Ballymoney and so are several of their players.

"The Glebe boys would be looking to prove a point that they were just as good as we were and that's how it turned out."

Despite scoring so early in the game the school teacher felt that his side switched off after that.

"We scored two very good early goals and I think that was our biggest problem because subconsciously we switched off after that.

"I know we had the player hyped that it was going to be a tough game and after we scored early those thoughts drifted.

"We had plenty of words at half-time and thankfully the second half performance didn't stink as much as the first.

"It was a solid second half performance but still nowhere near the level that we know we can play at," Kearney said.

Despite the poor performance Kearney knows that it's not always possible to play the way he wants to play.

"It's not always possible to play the free flowing football that everyone wants to see and that's what happened.

"Sometimes it has to be horses for courses and the result is more important that the performance.

"Games have to be ground out at times and so this one proved. Three points was the objective before the game and that's what we got."

The Ballymoney man was quick to praise debutant Michael Walsh for his performance in the game.

"Walshy was man of the match. There is no doubt about it and the clearance he made was superb.

"I made a point of pointing that out after the game and he will be one of the first names on the team sheet as he really stepped up to the mark.

"I suppose it's a sign of the times that the players are disappointed even after winning a game three one.

It shows how far this group of players has come when they are so down after a victory and that to me is a very good sign," concluded Kearney.
