Joy for Dunloy as they win McAuley Memorial Cup

The first two frames were shared between Paul Simpson (Drones), who took the first before Randall McDonnell levelled things up for Dunloy by winning the second easily.

As usual it was Gregory Cooke who put the Drones in a comfortable position by taking both frames against Brendan McTaggart, who was given enough chances throughout but he failed to take any of them.

There’s no doubt Martin Crawley has been Dunloy United’s most consistent player this year and he proved it yet again beating David Baker in straight frames to level the game at three frames each.

When the draw was made for the seventh frame it paired up Martin Crawley and Paul Simpson. Once again Crawley showed his worth with a fine display to see off Simpson and secure a second cup for Dunloy, who are also sitting top of the league, so the treble is very much on.

The last team to complete a clean sweep of the trophies in one season was the Villa Club Coleraine. The team was Jack Benson, Alan Kennedy, Bertie Kennedy, John McIlreavy and Samuel Walker. With no handicaps like there is now that was some achievement.

In the last round of league fixtures there was another flurry of draws.

Potters All Stars are now unbeaten in their last three held Seagull Potters, who are well to the fore holding third place along with Potters Elite and Potters Aces all on 23 points.

It was a great comeback by the All Stars who were three frames down after James Nesbitt took the first two frames easily against Johnnie McCook. Ivan Boreland taking the third against Aidy McGonigle, who put the All Stars back in the picture taking the fourth frame.

The Man of the Match tag went to Melvin Graham, who took both frames against Sam Coban with some superb potting and safety play to gain the draw. With the league doubles now underway and also the Marcus Dickson Memorial Trophy all players are asked to get their matches played as soon as possible so as not to hold up the competitions.
