Irwin and Jeffers in top form

EAST Tyrone CC had a brilliant weekend of results in various races across the country.

The first of these came on Saturday when club rider Gary Jeffers showed real promise by finishing in a remarkable 7th place in the Red Hand Trophy held at Broughshane. This event is one of the most prestige in the local cycling calendar.

Moving onto Sunday and ETCC underage riders were in action in Stamullen. Jake Gray who is having a great season to date with a number of wins already, added to his tally of podiums with a 2nd place in the U14 event. Harry McComb finished a very respectable 4th in the U16 race.

The results didn’t stop there, as later on Sunday in the Bann Valley Classic held at Clady outside Portglenone East Tyrone CC’s Darren Irwin took a superb victory in the “B” Race.

Teammate John McGlauglin made it two East Tyrone riders in the top six to round off a brilliant weekend for the club.

Last Thursday saw the start of the 2012 East Tyrone Cycling Club racing season with the Straight 5 mile Time Trial on the Omagh Road. There was a great turnout of over 50 riders taking place. On the night it was Clann Eireann rider John Hevern who broke the 10 minute barrier with a time of 9.48 to take the win.

Racing continues tonight (Thursday) with a 10 mile time trial on the Omagh Road. Sign on is at The Bramble Inn with action getting underway at 7pm sharp. Owing to safety concerns no U15’s are allowed to race on the Omagh Road awaiting the outcome of a meeting with the sports governing body at the end of this month.
