Honours even after derby clash

PRIORIANS Firsts had a tough local derby on Saturday at home to Raphoe, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

The game started at a very fast pace. Priorians made some good attacking runs into the circle from Kathryn Rough using her pace to out run her defender, unfortunately the Prior attackers could not capitalise.

On several occasions Raphoe’s hit outa managed to reach their high forward, putting pressure on the prior defence, but they could not score with Priorians keeper Megan McClintock pulling off some great saves. Priorians started very strong in the second half linking the backs and midfield well to make some attacking moves.

Prior were awarded a penalty corner, with player of the match Claire Lightowlers connecting with the ball well but just pushing the ball wide of the left post. Netty Wilson won a second corner for prior and with another great strike from player of the match Sharon Karayiannis which was saved, the rebound Emma Sproule was in the right place to gather the ball, slipping it the Kathryn Rough who made no mistake in putting the ball in the back of the net.

Prior worked hard to keep the advantage but raphoe attacked well and were awarded a penalty corner. This was well taken and Raphoe equalised with a well worked goal.

The Prior girls worked extremely hard in the last ten minutes of the game and were unlucky on many occasions in front of goal and ended up drawing a match they should have won.
