Watt a finish as George claims narrow victory at Galgorm

After all the rain which has fallen, the course was in remarkably good condition thanks to the ground staff.

In Division 1 after the 12th, Gareth Beckington (6) and Gary McWilliams (3) were one point ahead of George Watt (4) who in turn was a point ahead of John McCarry (4).

Through Beechers Beckington held a narrow one point advantage from McWilliams with Watt and McCarry at one and two points respectively further behind. Watt with two pars joined Beckington (two bogeys) with one to play. McWilliams (par, bogey) and McCarry (two pars) were one point behind.

All four players finished with a birdie, leaving Beckington and Watt one point ahead of McWilliams and McCarry. Watt with a better last six finished in first place with Beckington second.

Richard Lennox (8) started double bogey, bogey, ‘ding’ to leave himself five points adrift of Michael Adams (7) who opened with three pars after three in Division 2. One point behind the leader came David Henry (9) with Roy McDowell (8) a further two points behind.

After 16, Adams was three points ahead of McDowell and Henry with Lennox another two points away.

Adams finished double bogey, par to win by one point. McDowell (par, bogey) and Henry (bogey, par) were joined by a late burst from Lennox (par, birdie) and with a better last six Richard Lennox took second place

Playing off 13 Andrew McFarlane was one point ahead of David Cameron (11) and two points ahead of William McKigney (11) who would have been closer but for opening with a ‘ding’ at the Fort and Sam MacDonald (10) through 14 in Division 3.

Another point behind came Andrew McKibben (10) with Cyril Reid (13) and Geoff Bell (12) another point adrift.

Two holes further on McFarlane was two points ahead of MacDonald who was leading the chasing group. Another point away came Cameron with McKignet, McKibben, Reid and Bell a further point down.

McFarlane bogeyed the penultimate hole and then disaster as he ‘dinged’ the last. Cameron took advantage of McFarlane’s mishaps to draw level when he finished with two pars and with a better last three Cameron pushed McFarlane into second place.

Steven Penney (1) won the gross prize with 20 points.
