Shane takes the spoils on tough day at Silverwood

It was very wet and windy conditions at Silverwood Golf Club on Saturday and this made the scoring very difficult indeed and this reflected in the cards.

In first place with a nett 68 was Shane Mulholland who had a front nine score of 37 with two birdies, three pars and four bogeys.

His back nine of 43 included three pars and six bogeys to win by one shot.

In second place was Brendan McAlinden with a nett 69. He had a front nine of 42 with two pars and seven bogeys while his back nine of 45 was compiled with three pars, four single bogeys and two double bogeys for his total of nett 69.

Third was Steven McEvoy with another nett 69, he had a front nine of 40 with two birdies, two pars and two double bogeys.

On the back nine he recorded 44 which contained two pars and seven single bogeys at his remaining holes.

The gross prize was won by Matthew Madden with a gross 75, a great score considering the conditions. He had a front nine of 38 with one birdie at the 7th hole, five pars two single bogeys and one double at the 5th hole. His back nine of 37 included four pars, three bogeys, one birdie at the 15th and an excellent eagle three on the last hole to claim this prize.

In fourth place with a nett 69 was Sean Lappin. Sean had a front nine of 37 with three straight birdies, two pars, one double bogey and three bogeys. His back nine score of 45 had three pars, one double bogey and five single bogeys.

Fifth place went to Peter McCabe with another nett 69. He had a front nine of 35 with two birdies, two bogeys and five pars. His back nine of 44 contained three pars, one double bogey and five bogeys.

The senior prize was won by Francis Kelly with a nett 71.

The junior prize was won by Caolan Reynolds with a nett 74.

Sections prizes: 0-12 Michael Millar nett 70; 13-18 Patrick Curran nett 72; 19-28 Raymond Loney nett 71.

The first big competition of the year was the Easter cup and with the course in great condition thanks to the tremendous hard work of the green keeping staff after a few days heavy rain, it was great to see the course even open.

The winner on the day with 41 points was Dessie O’Hara.

Dessie had a great front nine with 23 points which included two birdies at the 1st and 7th holes, four pars and three single bogeys. His back nine of 18 points had one birdie, four pars, two bogeys and two double bogeys, to win by one point.

In second place was Connor McNeice with 40 points. He had 19 points on his front nine with one birdie, five pars, one double bogey and two single bogeys.

His back nine of 21 points was compiled with four birdies, two pars one bogey and two double bogeys.

In third place was one of the up and coming junior players at the club Ethan Headley with 39 points. Ethan had 18 points on his front nine with one birdie, four pars and four single bogeys.

He had a great back nine of only one over with one birdie at the 11th hole, two bogeys and six pars. It is great to see another young player coming through the junior ranks.

The gross prize was won by Caolan McCann with a one under gross 71.

He had three birdies, three pars and three single bogeys,. His back nine included two birdies, one bogey and six’s pars to collect another gross prize.

Fourth was Michael Devlin with 39 points, he had 20 points on his front nine, with one birdie, one double bogey and seven pars. His back nine of 19 points had three bogeys and six’s pars.

Fifth prize was collected by Stephen Morgan with 39 points. He had 20 points on his front nine with two birdies, four pars and three single bogeys. His back nine had only two bogeys at the 15th and 16th holes and seven pars.

The senior prize was won by Seamus Patton with 39 points.

Section winners: 0-12 Barry McCabe 38 pts; 13-18 Conor Haddock 38 pts; 19-28 Martin Hamill 37 pts.

The junior winner was Jack Doyle with 37 pts, 2nd place went to Oisin Farquhar with 35 pts and 3rd place went to Callum Starkey with 30 pts.
