Lady Captain welcomes Lisburn ladies to club prizegiving

The Captain thanked everyone for their good wishes on her Captain’s Day and their very generous donations to her chosen charity, the NI Hospice.

The first prizes to be announced were the winners of the Daisy Ferguson Foursomes kindly sponsored by Liz Finlay, Doreen Green and Fionnuala Kane. In first place was Ida Ross and Anne Hegan with 38 points. They went on to represent Lisburn at the finals at the Annesley Links, Royal County Down GC on August 11. In second place was Christine McCullough and Ruth Walker who were narrowly pipped on 37 points.

On Tuesday July 8 the ladies competed in a monthly stroke PGA Tankard competition sponsored by Anne Hegan, Ida Ross and Margaret McDonagh. Section A: 1st Margaret Rosbotham nett 75 and 2nd Joy Hall nett 77. Section B: 1st Amy Jeffers nett 69, 2nd Janice Orr nett 78 and Hazel Brown took the Gross Prize. Amy goes to represent Lisburn at Masserene GC in September for the PGA Finals.

The competition on Tuesday July 15 was the Darren Clarke Trophy and Bridge Bowl with prizes provided by Hazel McNally and Doreen Thompson. In first place was last year’s captain Sylvia McKelvey with a score of 38 points, followed by Patricia Clarke on 36 points and Ida Ross in third on 35 points. The gross prize went to the Lady President Mrs Maureen Bryson and the 9 hole competition was won by Elizabeth Howard on 16 points. The winner goes to the NI finals in October at Edenmore GC.

Tuesday July 22 was the Guide Dog Cup with prizes supplied by Daphne Bailie and Ena Roulston. Section A: 1st Margaret Rosbotham 71, 2nd Carol McBratney 71, 3rd Liz Hill 72. Section B: 1st Joyce Anderson 73, 2nd Janice Orr 77, 3rd Gil Colvin 79. Best gross went to Hazel Brown and Beth Kee won the 9 hole competition.

Midas Jewellers in Bow St were the generous sponsors of the weekly competition on Tuesday July 29. First place went to Joyce Anderson on 39 points, second was Valerie Rooney also on 39 points and third was Sharon Stewart on 38 points. Nearest the pin on the 4th went to Lettie Brooks with Kathleen MacDonald winning the 8th hole “nearest the line” prize. Gross Prize went to Maureen Bryson and Iris Smyth won the 9 hole prize.

The captain thanked all the sponsors for their generous support, sentiments echoed by each of the lucky prize winners. The Captain briefed the members on the progress of the club Cowdy Cup Team who have reached the semi-finals against Omagh who proved to be stiff opposition in the first leg.
