Eamon high at Royal Portrush

Eamon McCotter hit form on Saturday and won the Monthly Medal at RPGC with a tally of 41 points.

The six handicapper opened his account by bogeying the first but made amends with his three at the par four fifth. Same pattern again, Eamon bogies seven and birdies eight to be out with 21 points grabbed. His bogey six at ten was again followed by a birdie, this time a two at eleven, and his final birdie success was a good four down seventeen to let him add another 20 points for his total of 41.

This was two clear of the field as the Silver Medal was taken by Chris Brown with 39 points. Chris, playing off two, scored 18 points out. He was hindered by his double bogey at the short third but it was well forgotten on the inward nine as Chris hit his stride by birdying ten in four and eleven in two. His bogey five at twelve was taken back with a final birdie, a four at seventeen, to add 21 points. Bronze medallist was Robert Currie on 38 points.

Twenty-two of these came in a roller coaster front nine which started and ended with birdies. In between were a few bogies and one double, a six at the fourth, to keep Robert thinking. The back nine proved less forgiving and Robert could add just 16 but this was enough, along with the 21, to get him his placing.

Anthony Murphy went round in 72 shots to win the Best Gross. His one over par 37 for the opening nine included birdies at the par fives two and nine while on the back he went two better. The tenth gave him a birdie four and seventeen gave up an eagle three for Anthony to get back in 35, one under par, for his gross of 72.
