Dickinson’s the real deal

Last Saturday, Dunmurry Golf Club hosted the Frank Carson Trophy and in difficult conditions, four players returned 39 points.

However, it was 10 handicapper, John Dickinson who claimed the overall victory thanks to an excellent back nine.

He played to his handicap on the front nine picking up 18 pts, and thanks to seven pars, he picked up 21 points on the back to edge out Jimmy Adams.

Jimmy, playing off 24, picked up 20 pts on the front nine and 19 on the back to clinch second spot.

Neil Forsythe (7) started off with a birdies at the first and only dropped two shots to pick up 21 points on the front nine. Despite recording another birdie at the last, he only picked up 18 points on the back nine and had to settle for fourth spot.

Eddie Gregg (8) claimed fifth spot thanks to 19 pts on each nine, the highlight being a birdie four on the par five 13th.

Plus two golfer Darren Crow picked up the gross prize thanks to a two over par 72.

The Dunmurry Holt Shield have completed the opening two games.

At home to Knock, they won 3.5 to 1.5 – Aaron O’Rorke won 2&1, Scott Malcolm lost 4&3, Chris Black halved, Shane McCotter won 4&3.

Away to Greenacres ,they won 4.5-0.5 Aaron O’Rorke won one up, Nigel Abernethy won 6&5. Noel Magill halved, Shane McCotter won one up and Gareth Shirlow won 6&4.

Against Greencacres, Aaron and Noel were both three down with five to play. Aaron hit the shot of the day on the last, a par five with water guarding the green. He hit his second to 10 feet for a guaranteed birdie and a victory. Noel also fought back to claim a halved match. Dunmurry lead the group by four points from Shandon, who they play next, home and away.
