As reported last week, Connor Doran’s team did not have a good result in the home leg. From a strong position, they somehow managed to lose 3-4. The second leg at Shandon Park last Wednesday was always going to be difficult.

It certainly didn’t help matters when Jim Carvill, Kenny Stevenson and Stefan Greenberg declared themselves unavailable for the second leg. Banbridge got off to the perfect start when Colin Wilton beat Johnny Taylor in the top game.

Rory Leonard, at number two, was unlucky to lose by one hole against Tim Greeves.

Things went downhill after that. Connor Doran, Rory Madeley, Conor Mulholland, Josh Lockhart and Jonathan Ward all lost their games.

Shandon Park progress into the final by virtue of a 9.5 – 4.5 win.

It was a match that Banbridge could and possibly should have won but it’s the final score that counts.

We wish Shandon Park all the best in the final.

Andrew Burns (18) won the Open Stableford competition last Thursday with 40 points. Terry Malcolmson (15) was second, also with 40 points. A welcome visitor, G. Abernathy (12), was third with 39 points. The best gross prize went to Neil Clydesdale (5) with a 3 over par 72.

Andrew was the 17th different winner of the Thursday Open this year. There are only three more remaining on the fixture list. Will anyone manage to win it twice? Or could I possibly win it once?
