Alfred was worth a Gamble with 43 points
He won on a count-back when Jackie Ross also finished on 43 points. Alfred had a triple bogiey at the third but four pars fairly accumalated the points and he reached the turn with 21 points.
His back nine got off to a bad start with a no score at the 10th but he recovered well with another few par holes to score 22 points

Hide AdRunner-up Jackie Ross (18) got off to an horrendous start with double bogeys at the first and the third but he followed this up with four pars and a birdie to hit 21 points in the front nine.
The back nine was something similar when he doubled-bogeyed the ninth and the tenth and followed this with four pars, but another double bogey at the 15th probably cost him first prize.
Jim McGrath (19) had no worse than a five in his front nine and in fact his only slip through 18 holes was a double bogey at the 13th. Jim finished on 42 points and took third place. Ivor Harron won Best Gross.
WEDNESDAY HAT
The Wednesday Hat was won by Craig Tiffen after a count-back when both he and Raymond Rodgers finished on 42 points.
SATURDAY COMPETITION

Hide AdThe Club competition last Saturday was also decided on a count-back after Seamus Hegarty (21) and Alan Crockard (6) both put in tremendous performances to finish on 45 points, but it was Seamus who took the prize. Brian McGonigle (22) finished in third with a very credible 44 points. Ivor Harron won the Best Gross.
MATCH-PLAY
Meanwhile, the Chipped Potato match-play competition is hotting up as the players reach the quarter-finals.
