Garvey Ladies push Elks all the way

After last week’s success, Lisnagarvey Ladies Firsts aspired to produce another performance worthy of gaining much needed points. After two hard training sessions the squad felt confident that they could compete with the Ulster Elks at Jordanstown.

Garvey got off to a good start putting the Elks defence under pressure. Effective link up play between the midfield and forwards forced the Elks’s goalkeeper to produced a number of saves. Towards the end of the half the Elks found their passing rhythm which put Garvey under pressure all over the pitch.

The 2nd half saw both sides create a number of attacking opportunities. Garvey showed improved discipline and perhaps should have capitalised when the Elks were reduced to 10 players. In the last 5 minutes of the game either team could have snatched the points especially when the Elks earned a penalty corner on the last blow of the whistle. Garvey were happy to see the corner break down ending the match in a scoreless draw and with Garvey grabbing a well earned point.
