Four of Ballyvally Archery Club’s members have been chosen to represent Great Britain in Italy at the European Field Archery Championships in August.

Ruth Gilmour, Craig McCreery, Robert Mallon and Mark Nesbitt have attained qualifying scores for the British Team.

In order to qualify the archers must complete specific field courses each shot over a two day period and reach the qualifying scores set by Archery GB.

Venues for these shoots included Wicklow, Loughbrickland, Pentref in Wales and Overton in England some of which were extremely challenging courses.

For Robert, Mark and Ruth representing GB will feel somewhat familiar as the trio were on the GB team last year for the World Championships in France.

For, Craig, however this will be his first time representing GB. Craig will be part of the junior gentleman’s barebow team and is delighted to be chosen to represent Team GB.

August will indeed prove to be a busy month for Ballyvally as Mr Frank Mulligan, along with his fantastic group of volunteers, will be involved in organising the field archery section of the World Police and Fire Games.

This has been in the planning for well over a year now and will help raise the profile of archery within Northern Ireland with competitors expected from all over the globe.

For the first time ever archery at the games will be by gender and by age category and all eleven bow categories will be shot.

Ballvally has proved once again it’s continued success in producing talented archers and possessing the capabilities to be part of organising such an important event.
