U14s triumph over Carrick

The Gers got off to the perfect start when good work by Adam Loughlin down the right sent speedster Tom Stannage clear of the last man, before he easily slotted past the keeper to make it 1-0 after 1 minute.

Carrick struggled to get a foothold in the game due to the early dominance of the Rangers midfield and several further chances were spurned.

Banbridge keeper Jack Keary then had to make a fine save with his legs following a nice Carrick move which left their left winger clean through.

More Gers pressure led to a string of corners and Jamie Berry made it 2-0 direct from one of them.

Half time came and went and Carrick made an excellent start to the 2nd period. A mazy run by the ever dangerous left winger led to the home side reducing the deficit and more pressure nearly led to an equaliser, only stopped by a great save by Jack, who unfortunately injured himself in the process.

After a break in play and a new keeper for the Gers, more pressure led to another corner and Tom was on hand to make it 3-1 from 8 yards out.

Straight from the kick off Carrick responded with an identical goal to their first, same player, same run, same poor defending by the Gers and the score was 3-2.

A cracking cup tie was put to bed when Jamie rounded off good work by Josh Crawford, Adam, and Tom to send a shot high over the keeper and into the goal to make it 4-2 and the game safe.

The Gers are now into round 3 (last 32) which is played at the end of January 2015.

The boys get back to league action this Saturday with a trip to Lurgan to play Lurgan Town at the Arena.
