Smith calls it a day

SAMMY Smith has stepped down as manager of Amateur League side Newington Rangers, writes Alan Hall.

After one season in charge of the Division 1C club, the former Larne player said he felt it was “time to take a break”, but maintained he has left a strong squad in place for his successor to mount a challenge for promotion next season.

Speaking in last week’s Times, Smith hinted that his departure could be on the cards when he said: “Will Sammy Smith be there next season? That’s maybe another story for another day!”
