Scandinavian fans visit Lisburn

Lisburn City Council was delighted to welcome members of the Lisburn Distillery Scandinavian Supporters’ Club (LDSSC) to Lagan Valley Island recently.

Ten members of the LDSSC travelled from Sweden, Denmark and Norway to watch the last game of the season at New Grosvenor against Dergview which the Whites won 2-0.

The Mayor of Lisburn, Councillor Margaret Tolerton and the Chairman of Leisure Services Committee, Alderman Paul Porter invited the Scandinavian guests and members of Lisburn Distillery to a reception in the Civic Headquarters.

Speaking about the reception, the Mayor of Lisburn, Councillor Margaret Tolerton, said: “I was delighted to have the opportunity to welcome to Lisburn the European guests who show strong support for our local football team Lisburn Distillery. I gave them a guided tour of the Council Chamber, Robes Gallery and the Mayor’s Parlour. I hope they came away with find memories of Lisburn and its hospitality.”

For some of the Scandinavian guests this was their second or third to visit but their first time at Lagan Valley Island.

Alderman Paul Porter, Chairman of the Council’s Leisure Services Committee, added: “It was excellent news that in the year following Lisburn celebrating its European City of Sport status that ten dedicated Lisburn Distillery fans bought tickets to fly here and watch their team play the last game of the season.

“The LDSSC was founded in 2010 by Jan Tholin after he noticed similarities between Lisburn and his home City in Sweden, its proximity to a major river and that Lisburn hosted a football team that played semi-professional football.

“I hope that this visit will build on the relationship between the Council and this supporters group and on its next visit I hope that Lisburn Distillery wins again so you have a truly great football experience.”
