Poor weekend for Youths

IT was somewhat of a disappointing weekend for Institute’s youth teams.

The Under 10’s, 14’s and 15’s all lost to Dungiven, Lisburn Youth and Dungoyne respectively, this weekend the Under 13’s travel to Ballymoor and the Under 14’s are also away from home when they take on Ridgeway Rovers.

Dungiven U10...6

The final match of 2012, saw the ’Stute boys turn up eager to go despite the bitterly cold conditions at Coleraine, on Saturday.

The Waterside lads started well against a physical Dungiven side, with their football flowing well with some great passing from Harrison Lea, Lynch and L Boyd.

The first goal came as a result of great play from A Boyd who ran past several Dungiven defenders slotting the ball past the keeper.

It didn’t take long as the second goal quickly followed with continued pressure on the Dungiven defence. An impressive strike from Harrison Lea gave ’Stute a 2-0 lead after just ten minutes.

Dungiven fought back well as they netted twice to level things despite some fantastic goalkeeping by Allen.

’Stute kept going and were unlucky as the impressive A Boyd missed some great chances hitting the cross bar. The Dungiven perseverance paid off as they scored another two goals in quick succession, despite some excellent defending from ’Stute’s Cloete.

A bit deflated the Drumahoe team kept fighting and a great free kick from Curry gave ’Stute their third goal.

As moral lifted the flow of play improved and some key passing from McArthur and some strong tackles from Curry left it not long before ’Stute levelled things thanks to a fine finish from L Boyd.

That wasn’t all from L Boyd as ’Stute raced into a 5-4 lead with another fine strike.

But the last ten minutes changed the game, as some confusion was caused surrounding Dungiven’s fifth goal, as Allen had the ball comfortably in his hands a Dungiven player kicked the ball from his hands and into the net.

This was a game changer as Institute had fought against this strong team but a drop in moral surrounding this goal left them open and Dungiven scored another to finish the game 6-5 to Dungiven.

The score line did not match the commitment shown by ’Stute, a disappointing score to a well fought match. Everyone played well but Alex Boyd and Luke Curry stood out with their endless hard work.

The North West Coleraine and District Youth League are now holding their winter break and the league games will resume again in late January.
