One finalist known in each section of Glass Cup

THE Glass Cup is nearing its conclusion with one of the finalists known in both the District League and Churches League sections of the competition.

Michelin are in the District final after a seven shot success at Old Bleach.

In the first half on mat one there was some very good bowling by both sides in a very tight first five ends with the score line favouring the visiting rink skipped by Wes Caldwell 2–4.

The home four skipped by Willie Fullerton evened the score on the following end at 4–4, but the visitors were dominant on the run in and were worthy winners by 4–10.

The game on the other mat was much closer and although the visiting four skipped by Adi Davison won six of the 10 ends, the home rink skipped by Neil Booth levelled the scores at 8 – 8.

In the second series of games the visiting four skipped by Grant Robinson held a 1–7 lead at the half way stage against the home rink skipped by Davy Burrows.

The Bleach rink then scored seven unanswered shots on the following three ends to lead by a single shot.T

he pendulum then swung the other way with the visitors scoring single shots on the final two ends to win by 8–9.

As in the first half the scores were again very tight and the home four skipped by Mervyn McDonald fought out a 7–7 draw with Matthew Boyd’s visiting four.

Michelin now play the winner of the BUSC v Portglenone CC tie in the section final, which will hopefully be played early in March.

In the Churches section final, Glenwherry await the winners of the Second Broughshane v First Ahoghill semi-final after disposing of Harryville Men's Fellowship.

Glenwherrydid not get off to the best of starts as on mat one their rink skipped by Alister Crawford lost out to the visitors four skipped by Roy Law 8–15.

However, on the other mat the home four skipped by Lewis Davidson scraped through 6–5 over Max Johnston’s four.

In the second series of games the home four skipped by Sam Bonnar turned in a match winning performance with a 15–2 win over Bobby McLaughlin’s visiting four.

On the other mat the home side’s James Bonnar sneaked past Jackie Hughes’ rink by 7–5.
