Newtowne to win title this weekend

MATT Morrisson Junior Cup holders Liverpool Supporters Club were made to fight all the way before overcoming a spirited Park side on Saturday.

Favourites Newtowne had an easy home win over Maghera Strollers, Lincoln Courts also found things easy scoring five against Aghadowey; Greysteel were taken to extra time before seeing off Tobermore.

In the Premier Division BBOB had a good away win at Claudy Rovers, Draperstown Reserves certainly look doomed after another defeat to Drummond while Roe Rovers had a good away win at Burndennett.

There is one outstanding City Cup game this Saturday with three games scheduled in the Premier Division.

City Cup

Maghera Strollers v Ardmore

This game was abandoned a few weeks ago after an Ardmore player sustained a broken leg; they were leading 1-0 at the time so they will feel they can complete the job this time round.

Strollers know that this is their last chance of silverware as they have bowed out of both the Irish Junior Cup and the Matt Morrisson Junior Cup in recent weeks: they may make home advantage count.

Prediction: Maghera Strollers.

Premier Division

Newtowne v Greysteel

The Roesiders can win the title with a victory here they have had an outstanding season with probably their only regret not going all the way in the Coca Cola Irish Junior cup, they are on course for a couple of trophies before the end of the season.

The visitors are more than a useful side who have reached the semi finals of the Junior Cup they will give their all but that will probably not be good enough.

Prediction: Newtowne.

Draperstown Reserves v Roe Rovers

This looks like being one of the last games the home side will be playing in the Premier Division, they have managed just six points from fourteen games not nearly good enough.

Rovers are finishing the season strongly they currently are in fifth position in the table and they would love a top three finish.

Prediction: Roe Rovers.

Drummond v Claudy Rovers

The visitors are not out of the woods yet they are currently second from bottom but they have a number of games in hand over some of the sides above them, they had a bad result last week and need to improve.

The Roesiders although second in the table will probably be overtaken by a couple of clubs who have games in hand, they should be good enough to take the points from this one.

Prediction: Drummond.
