It was a day to forget for ’Stute as Cliftonville showed exactly why they are the best U14 team in the land with a ruthless second half display.

Despite the one sided score line it was only on the stroke of half-time that the Belfast side went two up after a decent first half display by the home side.

Deighan and Love played some superb through balls to Adams and particularly O’Brien. Both wide forwards delivered well into the box but the ball just didn’t run for any attackers.

The goal that gave the visitors the lead came when a great strike from distance that even a 7ft goalkeeper would have struggled to save and Smallwoods was unfortunate to see his attempted clearance scrape in under the bar for 2-0.

Had the game gone into half-time with only a one goal margin perhaps the second half may have been closer but once the league leaders went 3-0 up early on it was all one way traffic from there.

One to notch up to experience and hopefully some hard lessons learned for Institute ahead of the remaining league matches.

While the club is currently seeking a goalkeeper born in the year 2001 to join our already established Under 11’s side who play in the North West and Coleraine District Youth League.

The Waterside youngsters are also interested in attracted out field players to strengthen their squad.
