Larne Tech retain Dennis Harvey Cup

LARNE Tech Old Boys retained the Dennis Harvey Cup with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Wellington Rec in a surprisingly low-key derby at Dennis Harvey Park.

Ryan Kane, reportedly one of Wellington’s transfer targets just a few weeks ago, opened the scoring after the half-hour mark, nodding home an Andy Waide cross.

Wellington had gone close early on, when a Zak McAllister effort pinged off the bar. It was the Old Boys, though, who widened the margin after the break when Bertie Fulton provided the finish, beating rather hesitant substitute keeper Brendan Quinn from the edge of the box.

Another substitute Taylor Kirk added a third, volleying home Kane’s made-to-measure right-wing corner.

The Millbrook men did have their moments, and they gained some consolation through a neat chip from Josh McAllister.

This Saturday Wellington Rec will has two matches against Carrick Rangers sides (12pm and 3pm) and a fun day with live music in the evening.
