Friday Night Football League for Youths kicks off

The league will run every Friday for five weeks from 7pm until 9pm, and all players must be aged between 14 and 18 years.

The new scheme, in partnership with Coleraine Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) and the PSNI Community Policing Team, aims to encourage the Borough’s teenagers to set up their own community football teams to get involved and compete in the five week event.

Chair of Coleraine PCSP, Councillor David Barbour commented on the positive impact schemes such as this can have on local youths, “The Policing and Community Safety Partnership recognises that sport can be used as a positive medium to communicate with young people, deterring them from engaging in anti-social behaviour.

“The Partnership has been fully supportive of the opportunities available to young people through Coleraine Borough Council’s Community Sport Programme.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for teenagers to come together, have some fun, make new friends and learn new skills – so if you’re aged between 14 and 18 years old we encourage you to get involved and represent your community!”

Demand for places in the Friday Night Football League is expected to be high and with limited places available, interested teams are encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible. Entries will be accepted on a first come, first served basis and young people’s community teams, youth clubs, community groups and schools are welcome.

Coleraine PCSP and the PSNI Community Policing Team have been instrumental in this project’s success and we hope to continue to build on this in the future.”
