The 23-year-old winger finished his first season of his second spell at the Showgrounds by finishing as the club’s top goalscorer with 10 goals last term.

He was already under contract for next season but has now agreed to stay until at least the end of the 2014-15 season.

It is a significant boost for manager Glenn Ferguson, whose only summer signing to date has been Crusaders left-back Stephen McBride.

“David had a good season finishing top scorer and is still young and will continue to improve and get better.

“He is an important player for us and we look forward to working with him for the next two years and beyond,” added Ferguson, who may yet add former Lisburn Distillery and Glentoran frontman Neal Gawley to his panel.

“Neal has agreed to come and join us for pre-season and we will have a look at him then.

“He is aware if the situation regarding our wage budget and has already indicated that he would be willing to sign as an amateur – he just wants to get back playing football first and foremost.

“I played with Neal and also coached him at Distillery and he’s still only 27, has two good feet and can play wide right or up front, so he’s versatile,” added Ferguson, who reports no further enquiries for transfer-listed duo Chris Rodgers and Richard Vauls.

Meanwhile, United’s AGM takes place in the Des Allen Suite this Wednesday evening, June 19, at 7.30pm.
